What one date can tell you

Your date of birth quietly encodes a surprising amount: which weekday you arrived on, where the sun sat in the zodiac, which animal ruled the Chinese calendar year, the gem tradition assigns to your month, and the generation historians will file you under. Add today's date and it also yields your exact age down to the day — plus every day-count milestone still ahead of you.

The facts in your report

Day of the week

Every date maps to exactly one weekday. In the US, weekday births outnumber weekend births because scheduled deliveries cluster Monday to Friday — so weekend babies are a little rarer. More on this in our day-of-the-week calculator.

Western zodiac

Your sun sign follows the sun's position along the ecliptic at your birth, split into twelve 30° segments from Aries to Pisces. Dates near a boundary ("the cusp") can shift by a day depending on the year.

Chinese zodiac

A twelve-year cycle of animals — Rat through Pig. Note: the traditional cycle turns over at Lunar New Year (late January to mid-February), so January and early-February babies may belong to the previous year's animal. Our calculator uses the calendar year as a simple approximation.

Birthstone

The modern US birthstone list was standardized by the National Association of Jewelers in 1912: garnet, amethyst, aquamarine, diamond, emerald, pearl, ruby, peridot, sapphire, opal, topaz, turquoise.

Generation

Generational labels are conventions rather than science, but the commonly used US ranges are: Baby Boomers 1946–1964, Gen X 1965–1980, Millennials 1981–1996, Gen Z 1997–2012, Gen Alpha 2013–2024.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Chinese zodiac look wrong?

If you were born in January or early February, the traditional cycle may still have been in the previous animal's year, because it changes at Lunar New Year rather than January 1.

What's a day-count milestone?

A round number of days lived — 10,000 days arrives around age 27.4. See our 10,000 days calculator for the full list.

Is my birth date stored?

No. The whole report is computed in your browser; nothing is sent to a server.
